A popular Edinburgh attraction in its own right, Mr Woods Fossils is a resource and store for a comprehensive range of flora and fauna which once lived on Earth. Fossils are the petrified remains of these plants and animals, buried, and hidden for millions of years to be later uncovered. Fossils are all unique and represent an excellent gift or simply an attractive feature and talking point in anyone's collection of objects and ornaments.
First started near Edinburgh in 1983, Mr Wood's fossil shop opened five years later in the popular Grassmarket area of the old town. With an international reputation in the discovery and supply of fossils from local and wider sources, the shop has gone from strength to strength and currently exhibits and offers for sale an extensive array of animal and plant fossils which reflect the remarkable and long natural history of the Earth.
Starting from as little as a few pounds, fossils need not be expensive, and they range from small single items to large polished centrepieces.
In addition to the range of fossils on display, Mr Wood's Fossils also stock an extensive collection of minerals. Amethyst, Lapis Lazuli, Aquamarine, and Pyrite are just some of the crystals and minerals available and like fossils are unique and take on beautiful and interesting forms.
Larger ones make excellent ornamental pieces while smaller minerals and stones can be utilised in jewellery. A selection of rings, pendants and bracelets incorporating minerals and fossils are available in the store. What more interesting gift or unique personal piece of jewellery can there be than a meteorite pendant or trilobite cufflinks?
Mr. Woods Fossils is open from 10.00am till 5.30pm Monday to Saturday and on Sundays in July, August and December. Pop in and see the large selection of stock or call to see what new and exciting discoveries are currently available.
