Born from a love of cycling and the ancient tradition of storytelling, Storybikes takes you on journeys of history, tradition and sublime vistas that will nourish all the senses. Roam the Scottish countryside, The Borders, Northumberland and the city of Edinburgh with your guide and founder of Storybikes, Andy Hunter, who's Eureka moment for Storybikes happened while cycling from John O' Groats to Edinburgh. Since 2008 Andy has been taking tours and recounting with entrancing wit stories, history, myth and legend that bring each location to life.
Whether you're an experienced cyclist of many years, a mere novice or a lapsed but enthusiastic participant, Andy conducts the tours at a well measured pace that suits each individual group. You'll be cycling on quiet roads and off road paths in the main, so there's no need to be unduly concerned with regard to traffic. While taking part in a Storybikes tour you can if you want to make your own way to a destination or meeting point, with advice on route and expert map guidance from Andy of course.
Throughout the day on a Storybikes tour you'll cover approximately twenty-five miles, which may seem a lot, but with regular stops to enjoy stories, facts and the odd café plus a good old fashioned pub or two, the miles will fly by. In the evening you'll be treated to stories from Andy, or guest storytellers and you can naturally participate with your own tales, poems and songs, for a rip-roaring end to the day. With so much to see in Edinburgh, half-day tours may be as short as 7 or 8 miles.
If you love a good story, but aren't too sure about the cycling, you can still enjoy great tales and history on storytelling weekends throughout the UK and the US. Andy does not limit his powers of a tale well told to his cycle tours, he's also to be found on Leith FM radio, can be listened to online, and regularly takes part in Storytelling weekends.
You can even create your own bespoke Storybikes tours through places of special personal or family interest to you, and you can be sure Andy will know where to track down a real treasure trove of great stories to match.
